2016 Charity Spotlight Award Recipient
Dress for Success Louisville
As part of the conference, the IWLF Conference Planning Committee unanimously chooses a Kentucky not-for-profit organization as its Charity Spotlight Award Recipient. By highlighting the work of a worthy organization, IWLF draws attention to critical needs we face throughout the state. These organizations sometimes work quietly and without recognition in our communities to better the lives of women and children who may not have the capacity to help themselves. They help women build stronger networks, create opportunities and become the best version of themselves
This year IWLF is extremely proud to be supporting Dress for Success Louisville as its Charity Spotlight for the 2nd Annual Louisville Women’s Leadership Conference. Our two organizations have a mutual interest in improving the lives of women in our community, and we are thrilled to be coming together in this effort.
What is Dress for Success?
Dress for Success Louisville’s mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Their purpose is to offer long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the cycle of poverty. Dress for Success Louisville is part of a global movement for change, empowering women to obtain safer and better futures. They provide each client with professional attire to secure employment, but they are about much more than simply a new outfit. Besides physically equipping the client with apparel and accessories, the programs furnish her with a confidence that she carries forever and the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what success means to her.
History of Dress for Success Louisville:
Dress for Success Louisville is proud of their strong lineage. The Louisville affiliate was founded in 2000 after a national news program brought attention to the organization, started in New York City. Two Louisville women were motivated to bring the services and career development opportunities to the women in the Kentuckiana community. Since that time, the Louisville chapter has assisted more than 15,000 women from over 100 member agencies including the Center for Women and Families, The Family Scholar House, Goodwill Industries and the Louisville Urban League. Dress for Success Louisville now serves Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Henry, Meade, Nelson and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Washington in Indiana.
How can you help?
