2015 Charity Spotlight Award Recipient
The Center for Women and Families
As part of the conference, the IWL Conference Planning Committee unanimously chooses a Kentucky
not-for-profit organization as its Charity Spotlight Award Recipient. By highlighting the work of a worthy organization, IWL draws attention to critical needs we face throughout the state. These organizations sometimes work quietly and without recognition in our communities to better the lives of women and children who may not have the capacity to help themselves. They help women build stronger networks, create opportunities and
become the best version of themselves
This year IWL is extremely proud to be supporting The Center for Women and Families as its Charity Spotlight for the inaugural 2015 Louisville Brand You Women’s Leadership Conference. Our two organizations have a mutual interest in improving the lives of women in our community and we are thrilled to be coming together in this effort.
What is The Center for Women and Families?
The Center for Women and Families helps victims of intimate partner abuse or sexual violence to become survivors through supportive services, community education and cooperative partnerships that foster hope, promote self-sufficiency and rebuild lives.
Vision of The Center:
The Vision of The Center for Women and Families is to eliminate intimate partner abuse and sexual violence in our community.
With this vision in mind, The Center implements several long-term programs designed to reach youth before violence has occurred in their lives and to give them skills to prevent it. Each of the programs they offer is research-based and can be tailored to the unique dynamics of individual groups.
Serving the community since 1912, when it began as part of the YMCA, today The Center:
- Serves nine Kentuckiana counties
- Operating seven regional locations, three of which provide emergency shelter, transitional housing and/or long-term housing options
- Provides housing, advocacy, counseling, therapy, and education to local residents
Thanks to their generous work, The Center for Women and Families reached 30,000 people last year alone.
The Center for Women and Families will be featured on the main stage at the IWL Conference to share the organization’s mission and plans for future projects.
IWL will give attendees the opportunity to donate the day of the conference and we strongly encourage you to do so. You will have a chance to bid in a silent auction with auction items provided by generous contributors. All net proceeds will be awarded to The Center. Please register for the conference and come prepared to support this fantastic organization.
